Raju Hirani is a fantastic director. When you think about him, only good things come up. He has written, edited and directed only blockbuster movies. But unlike the typical blockbuster hits of Bollywood, his movies are something which has heart.
An emotionally driven plot
with laughs and emotions filled in every scene. And of course, there is a dance
break.
Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho
Munna Bhai, 3 idiots, PK, Sanju and now Dunki. All are amazing movies, and I
loved all of them – of course, in varying degrees.
Yes, I am a fan and hence
biased. But perhaps the other reviews are totally written with a winner's lens.
When you are looked up to deliver a certain kind of cinema, the expectations
are too high to match. And when you look at the last 2 movies of Raju, Sanju
and Dunki – both have gotten a similar response.
A good movie but the magic
is missing.
And I agree.
Talking about Dunki, it’s
a rollercoaster of a movie. It made me laugh and cry and gave me a
gut-wrenching feel at certain places like the last scene between Tapsee and
SRK.
So, where did Dunki not
meet the expectations:
1.
Of course
the Raju Hirani magic seemed missing
2.
The plot
was predictable
3.
There
seemed to an incoherence among the sub-plots
And, of course, when you
think about the Dunki, there is actually very little of actual Dunki and a lot
of time is spent on the built-up. The set-up is too long, and the punchline is
good, but it feels okay because of the long set-up it takes.
The highlight of the movie
is Vicky Kaushal; you are invested in his journey; he makes you feel all the
emotions, and you cry when things go south for him.
Like in Sanju and in Dunki
– both were good movies but perhaps a one-time watch only, unlike other Raju
Hirani movies.
